Partnership Initiatives Toward Sustaining our Atmosphere
There is no longer any serious doubt that human activity is altering the capacity of the atmosphere to trap heat and consequently changing the global climate. While the IPCC Fourth Assessment Report represents a cautious summary of the agreed science, many climate scientists believe that there are serious risks of non-linear changes. So it is an urgent task to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to stabilise the atmosphere. In the absence of a concerted government response in Australia, community groups are taking the lead and developing a range of partnerships. The Business Leaders Roundtable, the Al Gore initiative, thebigswitch.com and whoonearthcares.com are all instances of new approaches to change community behaviour. There is an encouraging level of support for these initiatives, which are now forcing politicians to follow the community lead.
