  • The Australia State of the Environment Report 2006 was released in late 2006. Thematic commentaries were prepared by independent authors to support the data reporting system available at http://http://www.deh.gov.au/soe/2006/drs/.
The preparation of the Atmosphere Commentary is discussed here, with a presentation of the major findings.
Australia’s urban air continues to improve except for ozone exceedances in Sydney. Hay-fever is the world’s highest per capita but Australia still does not have a national system to measure pollen. Dust and other airborne particles, including woodsmoke
are of concern in some regions and localities, with regional hotspots of air toxics also being of some concern.
