CLEAN AIR PARTNERSHIPS: COMING TOGETHER FOR THE FUTURE
Incorporating the 18th Clean Air Society of Australia and New Zealand Biennial Conference
Environmental issues cannot be solved by governments alone, or by determined community groups or individual industries. More and more it is recognised that maintaining our environment has become a pressing priority that requires engagement and collaboration between all community groups in society, acting in concerted local and global partnerships. This is particularly true of the atmosphere, with, for example, recognition of the significance of the consequences of global warming.
The new theme of development of partnerships in environmental protection has been echoed by government ministers and by industry leaders at many recent international and national forums. This 2007 IUAPPA World Clean Air and Environmental Protection Congress in Brisbane, Australia, will focus on community engagement through the development of new partnerships between local, the science, business and government communities. It will offer the opportunity to showcase examples of successful existing partnerships.
The program will, to a large extent, be outcomes-driven. There will be the same opportunities for presentation of scientific and technical work, but there will be an emphasis on outcomes in terms of partnership development, policy impacts and the like.
The Congress will bring together corporate environment managers, media reporters, consultants, policy makers, research scientists, project managers, regulators and industry environment officers. Their interests will include air monitoring and analysis, control systems, consultant expertise and cleaner production initiatives. Over 500 Participants are expected to come from approximately 40 different nations.
The processes and techniques developed in industry and research institutions that will be featured at IUAPPA 2007 will provide new approaches to current problems and prompt ideas for novel processes, products and challenges. The diverse range of delegates and papers can inspire synergies and collaborations allowing partnership to be developed across the world.
Brisbane's weather in September is beautiful, and the Congress will offer the opportunity for delegates to extend their stay and take in the tourist delights that Queensland has to offer - the Great Barrier Reef, beaches, rainforests, the outback. The Congress is being held close to a major celebration of Brisbane's environment, Riverfire, which is a spectacular event involving entertainment and scientific and policy conferences.
History of the IUAPPA World Clean Air and Environmental Protection Congress
No region of the world escapes the effects of air pollution, and the flow of pollutants across national boundaries makes air pollution a global problem. The International Union of Air Pollution Prevention and Environmental Protection Associations, founded in 1964, represents environmental protection specialists across the private, public and voluntary sectors in over 35 countries throughout the world.
A non-political and non-denominational organisation, IUAPPA's mission is to promote progress in:
- the prevention and control of air pollution;
- the wider protection of the environment and the adoption of sustainable development, by promotion of scientific understanding, the development of skills and techniques, and the application of relevant and effective policies at national and international level.
Held every three years, the IUAPPA World Clean Air and Environmental Protection Congress is the leading international gathering of air pollution specialists. It is hosted by IUAPPA member organisations in rotation, with care being taken to schedule meetings in different areas of the world. The Clean Air Society of Australia and New Zealand is proud to host the 14th World Clean Air and Environmental Protection Congress and to incorporate the 18th Biennial Conference of the Clean Air Society of Australia and New Zealand. The most recent World Clean Air and Environmental Protection Congress was held in London in 2004. The Congress provides a forum for environmental protection specialists in both industrialised and newly industrialising countries to exchange information, and to learn from each other.
